SAFETY
If Deployment Occurs
In this manual: SAFETY
~2min read
Front airbags deflate immediately after deployment.
NOTE:
Front and/or side airbags do not deploy in all collisions. This does not mean that there is a malfunction in the airbag system.
If you have been in a collision in which the airbags deployed, any or all of the following may occur:
- The airbag material may sometimes cause abrasions and/or redness of the skin to occupants when the airbags deploy and inflate. The abrasions are similar to rope burns or those you may get from sliding on a carpet or gym floor. They are not caused by contact with chemicals. They are not permanent and usually heal quickly. However, if you do not improve significantly within a few days, or if blisters develop, consult a physician immediately.
- When the airbags deflate, you may see smoke-like particles. The particles are a normal by-product of the process that produces the non-toxic gas used to inflate the airbag. These airborne particles may irritate the skin, eyes, nose, or throat. If you experience skin or eye irritation, flush the affected area with cool water. For nose or throat irritation, move to fresh air. If irritation continues, consult a physician. If these particles settle on your clothing, follow the clothing manufacturer's cleaning instructions.
Do not drive the vehicle after an airbag deployment. If you are involved in another collision, the airbags will not be able to protect you.
NOTE:
- Airbag covers may be difficult to see in the interior trim, but they will open when the airbag deploys.
- After any collision, the vehicle should be taken to an authorized dealer immediately.
