SAFETY

Seat Belt Systems

~3min read

Always wear your seat belt, even if you are an excellent driver and even on short trips. Another driver on the road may be a poor driver, and may cause a collision involving you. This can happen far from home or on your own street.

Studies show that seat belts save lives and can reduce the severity of injuries in a crash. Some of the worst injuries occur when people are thrown from the vehicle. Seat belts reduce the likelihood of ejection and the risk of injury from striking the interior of the vehicle. Everyone in the vehicle should always wear a seat belt.

Advanced Seat Belt Reminder System (BeltAlert)

Driver and Passenger BeltAlert (if equipped)

Dodge Charger. Seat Belt SystemsBeltAlert is a feature that reminds the driver and the front passenger (if equipped with front passenger BeltAlert) to fasten their seat belts. The BeltAlert function is active whenever the ignition key is in the START or ON/RUN position.

Initial Indication

If the driver is not buckled when the ignition key is first turned to the START or ON/RUN position, a chime will sound for several seconds. If the driver or front passenger (if equipped with front passenger BeltAlert) unbuckles when the ignition key is first turned to the START or ON/RUN position, the seat belt reminder light will illuminate and remain on until both front seat belts are fastened. The front passenger side BeltAlert is not active when the front passenger seat is not occupied.

BeltAlert Warning Sequence

The BeltAlert warning sequence is activated when the vehicle is traveling above a specified vehicle speed range and the driver or front passenger is unbuckled (if equipped with front passenger BeltAlert seat sensor) (the front passenger BeltAlert seat is not active when the front passenger seat is unoccupied). The BeltAlert warning sequence begins with the seat belt indicator flashing. The reminder light illuminates and an intermittent chime sounds. Once the BeltAlert warning sequence is complete, the unbuckled seat belt reminder indicator will remain illuminated until the seat belts are buckled. The BeltAlert warning sequence may repeat, depending on vehicle speed, until the driver and front passenger seat belts are buckled. The driver should instruct all passengers to fasten their seat belts.

Status Change

If the driver or front passenger (if equipped with front passenger BeltAlert seat sensor) unbuckles the seat belt while the vehicle is moving, the BeltAlert warning sequence will continue until the seat belts are buckled again.

The front passenger seat BeltAlert system is not active when the passenger seat is unoccupied. BeltAlert may activate when an animal or other objects are placed on the front passenger seat, or when the seat is folded flat (if equipped). It is recommended that pets be secured in the rear seat (if equipped) using pet harnesses or pet carriers secured with the seat belts, and in the cargo area properly restrained.

BeltAlert may be activated or deactivated by an authorized dealer. FCA US LLC does not recommend deactivating BeltAlert.

NOTE:

If the BeltAlert feature is deactivated and the driver or front passenger (if equipped with front passenger BeltAlert seat sensor) unbuckles the seat belt, the unbuckled seat belt reminder indicator will illuminate and remain illuminated until the driver and front passenger seat belts are buckled.
