Ford Escape. Setting the Adaptive Cruise Control Gap

Each time you switch the system on, it selects the last gap setting you selected.

Following a Vehicle

When a vehicle ahead enters your lane or a slower vehicle is ahead in your lane, your vehicle speed is adjusted to maintain the gap setting.

Your vehicle maintains a constant gap from the vehicle ahead until:

  • The vehicle ahead accelerates above the set speed.
  • The vehicle ahead leaves the lane you are in.
  • You set a new gap distance.

The system applies the brakes to slow your vehicle down to maintain a safe gap distance from the vehicle ahead. The system applies only limited braking. You can override the system by applying the brakes.

If the system determines that its maximum braking level is insufficient, a warning chime sounds, a message appears in the instrument cluster display and the indicator flashes while the system continues to brake. Take immediate action.
