Sensor Limitations

Ford Escape. Adaptive Cruise Control Limitations

The camera is mounted on the windshield behind the interior rearview mirror.

Ford Escape. Adaptive Cruise Control Limitations

The radar sensor is located in the lower part of the grille.

A message is displayed if something is blocking the camera or sensor. When something blocks the sensor, the system cannot detect a vehicle moving ahead and will not function.

The radar sensor has a limited field of view. It may not detect vehicles at all or may detect a vehicle later than expected in some situations. The lead vehicle indicator does not illuminate if the system does not detect a vehicle ahead.

Detection problems may occur:

  1. When driving in a lane other than that of the vehicle ahead.
  2. With vehicles that cut into your lane. The system can only detect these vehicles when they are fully in your lane.
  3. Detection problems may occur with vehicles ahead when entering and exiting a curve or when the road turns.

In these cases, the system may brake late or unexpectedly.

If something has struck the front of your vehicle or it has been damaged, the radar detection zone may change. This could cause a missed or false vehicle detection.

Optimal system performance requires a clear view of the road through the windshield camera.

Optimal performance may not be available if:

  • The camera is blocked.
  • Visibility or lighting conditions are poor.
  • Adverse weather conditions exist.
