Check

  1. Refer to: Valve Cover (Engine 303-01B — 1.6 L EcoBoost (132 kW/180 L PS) — Sigma, Removal and Installation).
  2. NOTICE: Use only hand tools when removing or installing the spark plug, otherwise damage to the cylinder head or spark plug may occur.

Use compressed air to remove any foreign material from the spark plug well before removing the spark plugs.
  3. Measure and record the clearance of each valve.
    Use common equipment: feeler gauge
    • Intake: 0.0118 in (0.3 mm)
    • Exhaust: 0.0157 in (0.4 mm)
    • Intake: 0.010–0.014 in (0.255–0.345 mm)
    • Exhaust: 0.014–0.018 in (0.355–0.445 mm)
Replace the valve tappets as necessary.

Adjustment

  1. Refer to: Camshafts (Engine 303-01B — 1.6 L EcoBoost (132 kW/180 L PS) — Sigma, Removal and Installation).
  2. Select the tappets using this formula: tappet thickness = measured clearance + existing tappet thickness - nominal clearance.
  3. Install the correct valve tappet.
  4. Material: Flange Sealant / CU7Z-19B508-A (WSS-M2G348-A11)
  5. NOTICE: Failure to follow the camshaft tightening procedure may damage the camshafts.

Tighten the bolts evenly, half a turn at a time, until the bearing caps and the VCT bridge contact the cylinder head.
    Material: Engine Oil — SAE 5W-20 — synthetic engine oil / XO-5W20-Q1SP (WSS-M2C945-B1)
    Torque:
    Step 1: 1 - 16: 62 lb-in (7 N·m)
    Step 2: 17 - 20: 89 lb-in (10 N·m)
    Step 3: 1 - 16: 45°
    Step 4: 17 and 18: 70°
    Step 5: 19 and 20: 53°
    • Rotate the crankshaft back 45° (counterclockwise).
    • Rotate the camshafts to measure the valve clearance,
    • Repeat the procedure as necessary until all valve clearances meet specifications.
    • Rotate the crankshaft clockwise until it stops against the special tool.
  6. NOTICE: Use only hand tools when removing or installing the spark plug, otherwise damage to the cylinder head or spark plug may occur.

    Torque: 133 lb-in (15 N·m)
  7. Refer to: Camshaft Seal (Engine 303-01B — 1.6 L EcoBoost (132 kW/180 L PS) — Sigma, Removal and Installation).
