Troubleshooting by Diagnostic Trouble Code - DTC P0506/P0507

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
The Idle Speed Actuator (ISA) is a motor with two windings, which are energized by separate control circuits of the ECM. Depending on the pulse duty factor, the difference in magnetic forces of the two windings acts in different directions on the magnetic forces of both windings, which changes the position of the actuator (and therefore the opening of the bypass passage). The bypass passage is located in the throttle body parallel to the throttle bore, where the idle speed actuator is installed.
DTC SET CONDITIONS
The ECM will store DTC P0506 or P0507 and illuminate the MIL if, during two consecutive driving cycles, within 15 seconds, the ISA control circuit signal value and engine speed do not correspond to the data stored in the ECM memory, when the following conditions are met:
1. Air flow through the idle speed actuator bypass passage is above 4.1 g/sec [for DTC P0506] or below 1.7 g/sec [for DTC P0507].
2. The difference between actual engine speed and the expected value is less than 200 rpm.
3. Vehicle speed is 0 km/h.
4. Engine coolant temperature is above 75°C.
This DTC indicates that the idle speed actuator position and engine operating condition do not correspond to the idle speed data stored in the ECM.
