Troubleshooting by Diagnostic Trouble Code - DTC P0201/ P0202/ P0203/ P0204

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
Fuel injectors are solenoid-operated valves. When current (pulse) is applied to the injector solenoid winding, the injector needle valve opens, allowing pressurized fuel to pass through the injector and mix with the air entering the engine.
The engine control module controls the fuel injection timing and the injector drive signal duration (injector open time). The engine control module controls the injectors based on information received from various engine sensors. The engine control module uses the crankshaft position sensor signal to determine when to send the injector control signal (fuel injection timing). Engine coolant temperature, intake air temperature, intake air flow and throttle position data are used by the engine control module to determine the injector control signal duration (injector open time).
The engine control module also uses signals from various sensors to determine whether all injectors should operate simultaneously (simultaneous or synchronous injection) or whether each injector should operate separately (sequential or asynchronous injection). Sequential fuel injection is almost always used during normal engine operation. Simultaneous fuel injection may be used when starting the engine while the crankshaft is being cranked by the starter.
DTC SET CONDITIONS
The engine control module will store a DTC and illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp if an open circuit or short to ground is detected in the fuel injector circuit for two driving cycles.
