Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKPS) Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKPS) detects the crankshaft position and is one of the most important sensors in the engine control system. If there is no CKPS input signal, the engine may stall due to the absence of the CKPS signal. This sensor is installed on the cylinder block or transaxle housing and generates an alternating current by means of the magnetic flux field created between the sensor and the target wheel while the engine is running. The target wheel has 58 slots with 2 missing slots at every 360 degrees CA (crank angle).
