Engine Control System/Fuel System
Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Description and Operation

Description
The Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IATS) is built into the Barometric Pressure Sensor (BPS) and detects the temperature of the intake air. To calculate the exact air quantity, intake air temperature correction is necessary because air density changes with temperature. Therefore, the ECM uses both the BPS signal and the IATS signal. This sensor has a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) thermistor, and its resistance changes inversely with temperature.
