Description
The Barometric Pressure Sensor (BPS) is a speed-density type sensor and is installed on the air cleaner assembly. It senses the absolute pressure of the air cleaner assembly and sends an analog signal proportional to the pressure to the ECM. Using this signal, the ECM calculates the intake air volume and engine speed. The BPS consists of a piezoelectric element and a hybrid IC that amplifies the element's output signal. The element is a silicon diaphragm type and uses the pressure-sensitive effect of a semiconductor variable resistor. Since 100% vacuum and intake manifold pressure are applied to both sides of the sensor respectively, the sensor can output an analog signal using the silicon change proportional to the pressure change.
