Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition off.
  2. Disconnect the ECTS connector.
  3. Remove the ECTS (Refer to Removal).
  4. After submerging the sensor thermistor in the engine coolant, measure the resistance between terminals 3 and 4 of the ECTS.
  5. Make sure the resistance is within specification.

    Specification: Refer to "Specifications"

Removal

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Air Cleaner")
  3. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector (A).
  4. Remove the spring clip (B) and pull the sensor out of the water temperature control unit.
    • Be aware that engine coolant may leak from the water temperature control unit when the sensor is removed.
  5. Refill the engine coolant. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Coolant")

Installation

  • Install the component with the specified torque.
  • Note that internal damage may occur if the component is dropped. If the component has been dropped, inspect it before installation.
  • Apply engine coolant to the O-ring.
  • Insert the sensor into the mounting hole, being careful not to damage it during installation.
