Electric Vehicle Battery System

Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The electric vehicle can be charged in two ways: quick charging and normal charging. In the case of normal charging, the battery is charged after 220 V AC power is converted to DC power by the On-Board Charger (OBC). In the case of quick charging, DC power from the charging station goes directly to the battery. While the vehicle is charging, vehicle movement is logically restricted for safety purposes. The vehicle cannot be charged by both charging methods simultaneously. The logic is controlled by the BMS ECU and IG #1, 2, 3 relays. The IG3 signal activates the Low Voltage DC-DC Converter (LDC), BMS ECU, Motor Control Unit (MCU), Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) and On-Board Charger (OBC), allowing the vehicle to be charged.
