Repair Procedures

Inspection

[Fuel Pump]

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

  2. Remove the fuel pump assembly.

  3. Check fuel pump operation by connecting the fuel pump connector (A) to power (No. 2) and ground (No. 4).

    Pin No. Description
    1 Fuel sensor signal (+)
    2 Fuel Pump Motor (+)
    3 Fuel Pump Motor (-)
    4 Fuel sensor ground (-)

[Fuel Sender]

  1. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 3 of the sensor connector (A) at each float level.

    Pin No. Description
    1 Fuel sensor signal (+)
    2 Fuel Pump Motor (+)
    3 Fuel Pump Motor (-)
    4 Fuel sensor ground (-)
  2. Also check that the resistance changes smoothly as the float moves from "E" to "F".

    Position Resistance (Ω) Capacity (L)
    E 398 ~ 305 2,7
    1/2 85,5 ~ 87,5 23,4
    F 14 ~ 16 44.1

Removal

  1. Release the residual pressure in the fuel line.

(Refer to Fuel System - "Relieve Fuel Line Residual Pressure")

  2. Remove the rear seat.

(See Body - "Rear Seat Assembly")

  3. Remove the fuel pump service cover (A).

  4. Disconnect the fuel pump connector (A).

  5. Disconnect the fuel feed tube quick-connect fitting (A), the vent tube quick-connect fitting (B), and the vapor hose (C).

  6. Remove the mounting bolts, then remove the plate cover (A), and remove the fuel pump from the fuel tank.

Fuel pump plate cover mounting bolt:

    2,0 ~ 2.9 N·m

Installation

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
