LOCK

To help prevent theft, the steering wheel is locked. The ignition key can only be removed from the ignition in the LOCK position.

When turning the ignition switch to LOCK, press the key in, then turn it toward the LOCK position.

ACC (Accessories)

The steering wheel is unlocked and electrical accessories can be used.

NOTE If you have difficulty turning the key to the ACC position, turn the key while turning the steering wheel left and right to release the lock.

ON

The hazard warning lights may be checked before starting the engine. This is normal operation after the engine is started.

Do not leave the ignition switch in the ON position when the engine is not running, as this may discharge the battery.

START

To start the engine, turn the ignition switch to the START position.

The engine crankshaft will continue to turn until the driver releases the key, and the key will then return to the ON position. In this position, the brake warning light can be checked.

WARNING - Ignition Switch
  • Never turn the ignition switch to LOCK or ACC while the vehicle is moving. This would cause loss of control over the vehicle's direction and braking function, which may lead to an accident.
  • The steering column anti-theft lock does not replace the parking brake. Before leaving the driver's seat, always check that the gear lever is in 1st gear for a manual transmission, or in P (Park) for an automatic transmission, set the parking brake fully and switch off the engine. If these precautions are not observed, the vehicle may suddenly move off.
  • When the vehicle is moving, never reach through the steering wheel to the ignition switch or any other control. Having a hand or arm in this area may cause loss of control of the vehicle, an accident, and serious injury or death.
  • Do not place any loose objects near the driver's seat. During driving they may slide around and distract the driver, which may lead to an accident.
