WARNING

Lexus Safety System+

The Lexus Safety System+ is designed to reduce the effects of a collision on occupants and the vehicle when driving safely, or to assist the driver under normal driving conditions.

Because the detection accuracy and intervention behavior of the system are limited, do not rely too heavily on it. The driver is always responsible for monitoring the area around the vehicle and driving safely.

Vehicle Data Recording

The Pre-Collision System is equipped with a highly advanced computer that records certain data. This includes:

  • Accelerator pedal position
  • Brake status
  • Vehicle speed
  • Operating status of the Pre-Collision System functions
  • Information (such as the distance and speed difference between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead or other objects)

The Pre-Collision System does not record conversations, sounds or images.

  • Use of Data

Lexus may use the data recorded by this computer to diagnose malfunctions, for research and development, and to improve quality.

Lexus does not disclose the recorded data to third parties, except in the following cases:

  • The owner of the vehicle or the lessee (for a leased vehicle) gives consent
  • There is an official request from the police, a court or a government authority
  • For use by Lexus in legal proceedings
  • For research purposes, in which case the data is not linked to a specific vehicle or vehicle owner

Sensors

Two types of sensors, located behind the front grille and behind the windshield, detect the information required for the operation of the driver assist systems.

Sensoren
  1. Radar sensor
  2. Camera Sensor

WARNING

To prevent radar sensor malfunction

Observe the following precautions.

Otherwise, the radar sensor may malfunction, which may result in an accident causing death or serious injury.

  • Always keep the radar sensor and front grille emblem clean.
  1. Radar sensor
  2. Front grille emblem

If the front of the radar sensor or the front or back of the front grille emblem is dirty or covered with water droplets, snow, etc., clean these areas.

To clean the radar sensor and front grille emblem, use a soft cloth to avoid scratches and damage.

  • Do not attach accessories, stickers (including transparent stickers) or other objects to the radar sensor, the front grille emblem or the surrounding area.
  • Do not subject the radar sensor and the surrounding area to strong impacts. If the radar sensor, front grille or front bumper has been subjected to a strong impact, have the vehicle inspected by a Lexus dealer or authorized repairer, or another qualified and properly equipped repair shop.
  • Do not disassemble the radar sensor.
  • Do not modify or paint the radar sensor, the front grille emblem or the surrounding area.
  • If the radar sensor, front grille or front bumper must be removed and reinstalled or replaced, contact a Lexus dealer or authorized repairer, or another qualified and properly equipped repair shop.

WARNING

To prevent camera sensor malfunction

Observe the following precautions.

Otherwise, the camera sensor may malfunction, which may result in an accident causing death or serious injury.

  • Always keep the windshield clean.
Clean the windshield if it is dirty, or if it has oil film, water droplets, snow, etc. on it. If a glass coating agent has been applied to the windshield, use the front wipers to remove water droplets in the area of the windshield in front of the camera sensor. If the inside of the windshield is dirty in the area where the camera sensor is installed, contact your Lexus dealer or repairer, or another qualified and properly equipped service shop.
  • Do not attach antennas, stickers (including transparent stickers) or other objects to the windshield in the area in front of the camera sensor (shaded area in the illustration).
  • If the windshield in the area in front of the camera sensor is fogged or iced over, remove the fog or ice by turning on the windshield defroster.
  • Replace the wiper inserts or wiper blades if water droplets cannot be fully removed from the windshield in the area in front of the camera sensor with the windshield wipers. If the wiper inserts or wiper blades need to be replaced, contact a Lexus dealer or authorized repairer, or another qualified and properly equipped repair shop.
  • Do not apply window tint film to the windshield.
  • Replace the windshield if it has cracks or other damage. If the windshield needs to be replaced, contact a Lexus dealer or authorized repair shop, or another qualified repair shop with the appropriate equipment.
  • Protect the camera sensor from moisture.
  • Make sure that no bright light shines directly on the camera sensor.

WARNING

  • Protect the camera sensor from dirt and damage. When cleaning the inside of the windshield, make sure that no glass cleaner gets on the lens. Also, do not touch the lens. If the lens is dirty or damaged, contact a Lexus dealer or authorized repair shop, or another qualified repair shop with the appropriate equipment.
  • Do not subject the camera sensor to strong impacts.
  • Do not change the installation position or direction of the camera sensor, and do not remove it.
  • Do not disassemble the camera sensor.
  • Do not install electronic devices or other equipment that emits strong electromagnetic waves near the camera sensor.
  • Do not modify vehicle components in the area of the camera sensor (inside rear view mirror, etc.) or the headliner.
  • Do not install accessories on the hood, front grille, or front bumper that could block the camera sensor. For details, contact a Lexus dealer or authorized repair shop, or another qualified repair shop with the appropriate equipment.
  • When transporting a surfboard or other long object on the roof, make sure that it does not block the camera sensor.
  • Do not modify the headlights or other lights.
