The adaptive cruise control of the Lexus GS (L10, 2016–2020) combines comfort and safety on long journeys. This chapter describes setting the speed and distance, use in different traffic conditions, and provides important safety information, such as deactivation on slippery roads or at road works. This keeps the Lexus GS composed on every journey.

Summary of Functions

Zusammenfassung der Funktionen

Road Sign Assist (RSA) can use the camera sensor to recognize certain road signs and inform the driver via the multi-information display.

When the system detects that the vehicle is exceeding the speed limit or performing another action prohibited by the detected road sign, it warns the driver with a warning display and a warning buzzer*.

*: Adjust this setting to suit your personal needs.

WARNING

Before using Road Sign Assist (RSA)

Do not rely solely on the RSA system. The RSA system is a system that assists the driver by providing information. However, it does not replace the driver's attentive driving. Drive carefully and always observe the traffic regulations.

Improper or careless driving may lead to an unexpected accident.

Display on the multi-information display

After the camera sensor has detected a road sign and the vehicle has passed the sign, the road sign is shown on the multi-information display.

  • When "Driving Assist Information" is selected, up to 3 road signs can be displayed.
Anzeige auf dem Multi-Informationsdisplay
  • When an option other than "Driving Assist Information" is selected, a speed limit sign or the end-of-all-restrictions sign can be displayed.
Anzeige auf dem Multi-Informationsdisplay

A no-passing sign and a speed limit sign with a supplementary sign are not displayed. However, if road signs other than the speed limit sign are detected, they are displayed stacked below the current speed limit sign.

Types of road signs detected

The following types of road signs (including electronic and flashing road signs) can be detected.

Typen erkannter Verkehrszeichen

*: The road sign is not displayed if the turn signal indicator is not operated when changing lanes.

Warning display

The RSA system alerts the driver with a warning indicator in the following situations.

  • If the vehicle speed exceeds the speed limit shown by the road sign displayed on the multi-information display, the colors of the displayed road sign are inverted.
  • If a no-passing sign is displayed on the multi-information display and the system detects that your vehicle is about to pass another vehicle, the displayed road sign flashes.
  • If the RSA system detects a no-entry sign and, using the navigation system's map data, determines that the vehicle has entered an area where entry is prohibited, the no-entry sign flashes.

■ Automatic hiding of the RSA road sign display

The display of one or more road signs is automatically hidden in the following situations.

  • No new road sign is detected over a certain distance.
  • You turn right or left, etc., onto a new road.

■ Conditions that may prevent the system from operating or detecting correctly

In the following situations, the RSA system does not operate normally, and it may fail to detect road signs, display incorrect road signs, etc. This does not indicate a malfunction.

  • The alignment of the camera sensor has changed, for example due to a strong impact, etc.
  • Dirt, snow, a sticker, etc. is on the windshield near the camera sensor.
  • In adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain, fog, or snow or sand storms
  • Light from an oncoming vehicle, the sun, etc. shines directly into the camera sensor.
  • The road sign is dirty, faded, dented, or tilted, or the electronic road sign has poor contrast.
  • All or part of the sign is blocked by leaves, a pole, etc.
  • The sign was visible to the camera sensor only briefly.
  • The driving situation (turning, changing lanes, etc.) is misjudged.
  • The road sign does not apply to the lane you are currently driving in, but is located directly at the beginning of a highway exit or shortly before the end of an merging lane.
  • Stickers are attached to the rear of the vehicle ahead.
  • A sign that resembles a system-compatible road sign is detected.
  • The vehicle is being driven in a country where a different traffic direction applies.
  • When driving on a main road, speed limit signs of an adjacent road may be detected and displayed (if they are within the detection range of the camera sensor).
  • When driving in a traffic circle (roundabout), speed limit signs of a roundabout exit road may be detected and displayed (if they are within the detection range of the camera sensor).

■ When driving in a country where a different speed unit applies Because the RSA system recognizes road signs based on the unit set on the instrument cluster, the unit set on the instrument cluster must be changed. Set the unit on the instrument cluster to the speed unit of the road signs at your current location.

■ Turning the system on and off

  1. Selectunderon the multi-information display
  2. Presson the steering wheel.
     Ein- und Ausschalten des Systems

■ Displaying the speed limit sign

If the engine switch is turned off while a speed limit sign is displayed on the multi-information display, the same road sign is displayed again when the engine switch is returned to IGNITION ON mode.

■ Personal settings

You can change settings (e.g., the threshold for the speeding warning).

The Road Sign Assist (RSA) in the Lexus GS GRL1 4th generation supports the driver by detecting and displaying road signs. This keeps the driver informed at all times and helps them comply with traffic regulations more effectively. This contributes significantly to safety.

The clear display on the multi-information display and the precise camera technology make the RSA system a valuable part of the driver assistance package of the Lexus GS sport sedan 2016–2020.
