Ignition switch
Start button positions
The system works only when the driver is inside the vehicle, or when the key is within its operating range.
Each press of the Start button cycles the ignition switch through the OFF, ACC and ON positions. Pressing the Start button again while in the ON position turns the ignition off.

CAUTION
The engine starts by pressing the Start button while the clutch pedal (manual transmission) or brake pedal (automatic transmission) is depressed. To change the ignition switch position, press the Start button without pressing the pedal.
Do not leave the ignition switch in the ON position when the engine is not running.
This may discharge the battery. If you leave the switch in the ACC position (with an automatic transmission, the shift lever in P and the ignition switch in ACC), it will switch off automatically after about 25 minutes.
(OFF) Off
Power to the electrical devices is cut off and the indicator light (orange) on the Start button goes out.
In this position the steering wheel is locked.
WARNING
Always switch off the ignition, apply the parking brake and make sure the shift lever is in P (automatic transmission) or in 1 or R (manual transmission) before leaving the driver's seat. Leaving the driver's seat without switching off the ignition, applying the parking brake and placing the shift lever in P (automatic transmission) or in 1 or R (manual transmission) is dangerous. The vehicle may move unexpectedly, which may cause an accident.
In addition, if you intend to leave the vehicle even for a short time, it is important to set the ignition switch to OFF, because leaving it in another position will not activate some of the vehicle's security systems and will discharge the battery.
CAUTION
(Steering wheel locked) If the Start button indicator light (green) flashes and a warning tone sounds, the steering wheel is not unlocked. To unlock the steering wheel, press the Start button while turning the steering wheel left and right.
ACC (Accessories)
In this position some electrical devices operate and the indicator light (orange) is on.
In this position the steering wheel is unlocked.
CAUTION
The keyless entry central locking does not work when the ignition switch is in the ACC position, and the doors will not lock/unlock, even if they were locked manually.
ON (On)
This is the normal operating position after the engine has been started. The indicator light (orange) goes out. (The indicator light (orange) is on when the ignition switch is in the ON position and the engine is not running.)
Check the warning/indicator lights before starting the engine (page 4-40).
CAUTION
(SKYACTIV-G 1.3, SKYACTIV-G 1.5) If you press the Start button to the ON position, you may hear the fuel pump running. This does not indicate a malfunction.
