Secure any items that could move to avoid weight shifts that could affect your vehicle's balance. When your vehicle is loaded, stop at a location with a scale and weigh the front and rear wheels separately to determine the load on each axle. The load on the front or rear axle must not exceed the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR).

The total load on the axles must not exceed the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). These weight ratings are shown on your vehicle's certification label. If your vehicle's loads exceed these ratings, move or remove luggage so that the weights are below the recommended load limits.
