Child safety: general information
Transporting children
A child, like an adult, must be seated correctly and restrained on every journey. You are responsible for the children you transport.
A child is not a miniature adult.
They are exposed to specific injury risks because their muscles and bones are still growing.
A seat belt alone is not suitable for transporting a child. Use an appropriate child seat and use it correctly.
! To prevent the doors from being opened from inside, use the “Child Safety” device (see the section “Opening and closing the doors” in chapter 1). ! An impact at 50 km/h is equivalent to a 10-metre fall. Not fastening a child is like letting them play on a fourth-floor balcony without a railing! Never hold a child in your arms. In an accident, you will not be able to hold them, even if you are wearing your seat belt. If your vehicle has been involved in a road accident, replace the child seat and have the seat belts and ISOFIX anchorages checked. ! Driver's responsibility when parking or stopping the vehicleNever leave your vehicle with a child, a dependent adult or an animal inside, even for a short time.
Children may put themselves or others at risk, for example by starting the engine, operating equipment such as the window controls, or locking the doors.
In addition, in hot and/or sunny weather, be aware that the temperature inside the passenger compartment rises very quickly.
RISK OF DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY.
Using a child seat
The level of protection provided by a child seat depends on its ability to restrain your child and on how it is installed.
Incorrect installation compromises the child's protection in the event of sudden braking or an impact.
Before buying a child seat, check that it complies with the regulations of the country where you are and that it can be fitted in your vehicle.
Consult a Brand Representative to find out which seats are recommended for your vehicle.
Before fitting a child seat, read its instructions and follow them.
If you have difficulty installing the seat, contact the equipment manufacturer.
Keep the instructions with the seat.
Set an example by fastening your seat belt, and teach your child to:
fasten their seat belt correctly.
get in and out on the side away from traffic.
Do not use a second-hand child seat or one without instructions for use.
Make sure no objects in or near the child seat interfere with its installation.
! Never leave a child unattended in the vehicle. Make sure your child is always secured and that their harness or seat belt is correctly adjusted and fitted. Avoid thick clothing that creates slack in the straps. Do not let your child put their head or arms out of the window. Check that the child maintains a correct posture throughout the journey, especially when sleeping.Test yourself
