Choosing the child seat installation

Rear-facing child seats

Rear-facing child seats

A baby's head is proportionally heavier than an adult's and their neck is very fragile. Keep the child in this position for as long as possible (until at least 2 years of age).

It supports the head and neck.

Choose a shell-type seat for better side protection, and replace it as soon as the child's head extends beyond the shell.

Forward-facing child seats

The head and abdomen of children are the priority areas to protect. A rear-facing child seat securely fixed to the vehicle reduces the risk of head impact. Carry your child in a rear-facing seat with harness or shield for as long as their size allows.

Choose an enveloping seat for better side protection.

Booster seats

Booster seats

From 15 kg or 4 years old, the child can travel on a booster seat, which allows the seat belt to fit their body. The booster seat cushion must have guides that position the belt over the child's thighs and not over the stomach. A backrest adjustable in height and fitted with a belt guide is recommended to position the belt across the middle of the shoulder. It must never be placed on the neck or the arm.

Choose an enveloping seat for better side protection.

There are two ways to fix child seats: with the seat belt or with the ISOFIX system.

Fixing with the seat belt

The seat belt must be adjusted so that it performs its function in the event of sudden braking or an impact.

Follow the belt routing specified by the child seat manufacturer.

Always check that the seat belt is latched by pulling on it, then tighten it as much as possible while pressing down on the child seat.

Check that the seat is held firmly by moving it left/right and forward/backward: the seat must remain securely fixed.

Check that the child seat is not installed crooked and that it does not rest against a window.

! Do not use a child seat that could unlatch the belt securing it: the base of the seat must not rest on the buckle tongue and/or buckle of the seat belt. ! The seat belt must never be slackened or twisted. Never pass it under the arm or behind the back. Check that the belt is not damaged by sharp edges. If the seat belt does not work normally, it cannot protect the child. Consult a brand Representative. Do not use this seat position until the seat belt has been repaired.

ISOFIX system mounting

Approved ISOFIX child seats are type-approved to the ECE-R44 regulation in one of the following three cases:

  • ISOFIX universal, 3-point, forward-facing;
  • ISOFIX semi-universal, 2-point;
  • vehicle-specific.

For the last two types, check that your child seat can be installed by consulting the list of compatible vehicles.

Secure the child seat using the ISOFIX latches when it is fitted with them. The ISOFIX system provides easy, quick and secure installation.

The ISOFIX system consists of 2 anchor points and, in some cases, a third anchor point.

! Before using an ISOFIX child seat that you have acquired for another vehicle, make sure its installation is approved. Check the list of vehicles that can accommodate the seat with the equipment manufacturer.
Fixation par système ISOFIX

The two anchor points 1 are located between the backrest and the seat cushion, behind zip fasteners, and are marked.

To make it easier to install and lock your child seat onto anchor points 1, use the child seat's access guides 2.

The third anchorage is used to attach the top tether strap of certain child seats.

Fixation par système ISOFIX

Depending on the vehicle, pass the strap between the wheel arch trim 4 and the underside of the upper panel 5.

From the luggage compartment, attach the strap hook to anchor point 3 on the corresponding side.

Check that the rear seat backrest is correctly locked.

Tighten the strap so that the child seat backrest is in contact with the vehicle seat backrest.

! The cargo area anchorages (rings) 3 cannot be used if they are already being used to secure two of the following three items: luggage separation net, cargo load, or child seat.
Fixation par système ISOFIX
! ISOFIX anchorages are designed exclusively for child seats with the ISOFIX system. Never attach other child seats, seat belts, or other objects to these anchorages. Make sure nothing obstructs the anchorage points. If the vehicle has been involved in a road accident, have the ISOFIX anchorages checked and replace your child seat.
