Bleeding the clutch circuit

~2min read

METHOD

Note:
  • Even a tiny air bubble in the circuit can cause operating faults.
  • Incorrect bleeding can lead to a wrong diagnosis and unjustified replacement of parts.
  • The circuit is bled in two stages:
  • between the reservoir and the bleed port,
  • between the bleed port and the hydraulic slave cylinder.

I - BLEEDING BETWEEN THE RESERVOIR AND THE BLEED NIPPLE

  • Hold the clutch pedal in the up position.
  • Fill the hydraulic circuit with approved fluid.

JH3 or JR5

Purge du circuit d'embrayage
  • Remove the bleed nipple cap.
  • Connect a clear hose to the bleed nipple (1) and route it to an empty container placed above the bleed nipple.
  • Lift the clip (2).
  • Pull the clutch control line out by one notch.

ND0

Purge du circuit d'embrayage
  • Remove the bleed nipple cap.
  • Connect a clear hose to the bleed nipple (3) and route it to an empty container placed above the bleed nipple.
WARNING

Do not pull on the clip. Any handling error requires replacement of the hose.

  • Press the clip (4).
  • Pull the clutch control line out by one notch.
Note:
  • The system fills by gravity.
  • A mixture of fluid and air flows out of the bleed nipple.
  • Operate the clutch pedal through its full travel with rapid pumping strokes.
  • Reconnect:
  • the clutch control line to close the bleed nipple as soon as fluid flows without air,
  • the clutch pedal in the up position.

II - BLEEDING BETWEEN THE BLEED NIPPLE AND THE CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER

  • Press the pedal down to the bottom stop.
  • Hold the pedal at the bottom stop.
  • Open the bleed nipple; a mixture of fluid and air bubbles flows out.
  • Reconnect:
  • the clutch control line to close the bleed nipple as soon as fluid flows without air,
  • the clutch pedal in the up position.
  • Repeat the operation until no more air bubbles appear.
  • Top up the fluid level to the MAX mark on the reservoir.
  • Check that the clutch system operates correctly.
