Valve Clearance Adjustment

~1min read

PROCEDURE

Counting from the camshaft drive: – valves No. 1, 3, 5, 7 – intake; – valves No. 2, 4, 6, 8 – exhaust. Valve clearances on a cold engine (coolant temperature below 35°C) are: – intake valve 0.10 + 0.05 mm; – exhaust valve 0.20 + 0.05 mm. Valve clearances on a warm engine (coolant temperature 80°C) are: – intake valve 0.15 + 0.05 mm; – exhaust valve 0.25 + 0.05 mm. PROCEDURE 1. Remove cover 5 (see figure Cylinder Head) from the cylinder head. 2. Turn the crankshaft so that both cams of the camshaft on the cylinder being checked point up. 3. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the camshaft cam and rocker arm 10 of the valve (see figure Camshaft and Valves). 4. If the clearance differs from the values above, turn adjusting screw 9 to set the required clearance. The clearance is correct if the feeler gauge slides in with noticeable resistance. 5. Adjust the clearances for the remaining cylinders in the same way. 6. Install the cylinder head cover.
