PROCEDURE

On vehicles with automatic transmission, a drive plate is installed instead of the flywheel. Removal and Installation PROCEDURE 1. Lock the flywheel by inserting a suitable metal lever into the teeth of the ring gear. 2. Evenly loosen the flywheel mounting bolts by 1–2 turns. 3. Remove the bolts and take the flywheel off the crankshaft. 4. After removal, inspect the flywheel. If it has cracks, deep wear marks on the surface contacted by the clutch disc, or damaged ring gear teeth, replace the flywheel. Note that the new flywheel is marked only with the TDC mark, which is "0". Therefore, mark the ignition timing advance on the flywheel in the same way as on the old flywheel. 5. Install the flywheel in the reverse order. Before installation, apply thread locking compound "D6" to the bolt threads. Tighten the bolts evenly in a crisscross pattern to a torque of 75 N·m (if the bolts have a collar, tighten to a torque of 100 N·m). 6. If the drive plate was replaced, check and, if necessary, adjust its position. The distance from the rear face of the cylinder block to the torque converter mounting surface on the drive plate must be 30.5–32.1 mm. The drive plate position can be adjusted by installing a shim between it and the crankshaft.
