Spark plug connectors, connectors with interference suppression resistors
Audi vehicles may only use specific spark plug connectors. Suitable connectors must have an internal resistance of 4–6 kOhm.
The same applies to the connectors with interference suppression resistors installed at the distributor and ignition coil connections. Their internal resistance must be 0.6–1.4 kOhm.
The distributor rotor must also have a specific interference suppression resistor of 0.6–1.4 kOhm. It is marked "R1".
Tip: If the engine constantly or intermittently (in wet weather) runs on not all cylinders, this is often caused by faulty spark plug connectors. Spark leaks through the insulating material between the metal housing and the high-voltage electrode. Otherwise, a connector usually cannot be checked for breakdown by appearance alone. To check, replace the connector with another one. Roadside help: remove the metal shield from the connector plug.
