Firing order
The high-voltage wires from the distributor cap are connected to the spark plugs according to the firing order. The numbers show which cylinder (counted front to rear) each wire must be connected to. The 4-cylinder engine is shown on the left, the 5-cylinder engine on the right.

For smooth engine operation, the cylinders of a 4-cylinder engine are not fired in the order 1 – 2 – 3 – 4, but in a specific non-sequential pattern. High-voltage wires are connected to the distributor cap according to the firing order. With the distributor cap and dust cover removed, if the rotor points to the mark on the edge of the distributor housing, cylinder 1 (the one furthest forward in the direction of travel) is at the firing point. This is the starting point for installing the wires.
The firing order (cylinder sequence) for our engines is as follows:
SEQUENCE
4-cylinder engine: 1 – 3 – 4 – 2, distributor rotor turns clockwise (to the right).
5-cylinder engine: 1 – 2 – 4 – 5 – 3, distributor rotor turns clockwise (to the right).
6-cylinder engine: 1 – 4 – 3 – 6 – 2 – 5. There is no distributor; the high-voltage wire connection sequence to the ignition coil pack matches the cylinder order. Example: the high-voltage wire from the rear right connection leads to the rear right cylinder.
