Attention Assist
Attention Assist in the BMW 5 Series G30 helps detect fatigue and declining concentration early on longer journeys. Among other things, the system analyzes steering behavior and driving time to display a rest recommendation. It provides added safety and promotes conscious driving behavior, especially on motorways. Drivers can adjust the sensitivity individually via the iDrive system, an intelligent solution for more responsibility behind the wheel.
Principle
The system can detect declining attention or driver fatigue during long, monotonous journeys, e.g. on motorways.
In this situation, a break is recommended.
Safety information
WARNING The system does not relieve you of your own responsibility to correctly assess your physical condition. Increasing inattention or fatigue may not be detected, or may not be detected in time.
There is a risk of an accident. Make sure the driver is rested and attentive. Adjust driving style to traffic conditions.
Function
The system is active every time the vehicle is switched on (ready to drive).
After the start of the journey, the system learns the driver's behavior so that declining attention or fatigue can be detected.
This process takes the following criteria into account:
- Individual driving style, e.g. steering behavior.
- Driving conditions, e.g. time of day, driving duration.
The system is active from approx. 70 km/h and can display a rest recommendation in addition to the Attention Assist.
Rest recommendation
Switching on/off, adjusting
Attention Assist is automatically active every time the vehicle is switched on (ready to drive) and can therefore display a rest recommendation.
The break recommendation can also be switched on or off and adjusted via iDrive. Via iDrive:
- "My Vehicle"
- "Vehicle settings"
- "Attention Assistant"
- Select the desired setting.
- "Off": No break recommendation is given.
- "Standard": The break recommendation is given at a defined level.
- "Sensitive": The break recommendation is given earlier.
Display
If the driver's attention decreases or the driver becomes fatigued, a message is shown on the Control Display recommending that a break be taken.
The following settings can be selected while the message is displayed:
- "Do not ask again"
- "Rest stops"
- "Remind me later"
The break recommendation is repeated after 20 minutes.
After a break, a break recommendation can be displayed again after approx.
45 minutes at the earliest.
System limitations
The function may be restricted in situations such as the following, and no warning or an incorrect warning may be given:
- If the time is set incorrectly.
- If the driving speed is predominantly below approx. 70 km/h.
- With a sporty driving style, e.g. during hard acceleration or fast cornering.
- In active driving situations, e.g. frequent lane changes.
- On poor road surfaces.
- In strong crosswinds.
The system is reset approx. 45 minutes after the vehicle is switched off, e.g. during a break on a long motorway journey.
The Attention Assistant of the BMW 5 G30/G31 helps to increase safety on long journeys. Based on steering behavior and driving conditions, the system detects signs of fatigue or decreasing attentiveness and recommends a break when necessary. The system's added value is particularly evident on motorways, where it works unobtrusively in the background.
The break recommendation can be individually adjusted via iDrive, so the driver can decide whether and how sensitively the system responds. Options such as "Remind me later" or "Do not ask again" can also be conveniently selected while driving. This supports flexible use depending on the current situation.
The BMW 5 G30/G31 thus combines modern technology with practical comfort, making every longer journey safer and more relaxed.
