Post Crash – iBrake
The Exit Warning in the BMW 5 Series VII generation protects occupants when opening the doors from approaching vehicles, bicycles or pedestrians. As soon as an object is detected in the danger zone, a visual warning appears in the door trim, along with an acoustic signal. The system remains active for several minutes after the engine is switched off, which is ideal on narrow streets or at night. Especially for passengers in the rear seat, the assistant prevents careless door opening. Combined with other safety systems, it supports a fully safe exit. A well-considered addition for more responsibility when parking.
Principle
In certain accident situations, the system can bring the vehicle to a standstill automatically without driver intervention. This can reduce the risk of a further collision and its consequences.
At standstill
Once standstill is reached, the brake is released automatically.
Braking the vehicle more strongly
In certain situations it may be necessary to bring the vehicle to a standstill more quickly.
To do so, press the brake pedal with a higher brake pressure for a short time than the automatic braking applies. This cancels the automatic braking.
Cancelling automatic braking
In certain situations it may be necessary to cancel automatic braking, e.g.
to perform an evasive maneuver.
To cancel automatic braking:
- Press the brake pedal.
- Press the accelerator pedal.
Post Crash – iBrake in the BMW 5 Series G30/G31 is a safety system that automatically provides controlled braking after an accident. Its aim is to prevent secondary collisions and reduce the consequences of the accident. The vehicle is brought to a standstill without driver action, and the braking is then released automatically.
The driver can cancel automatic braking at any time, for example for an evasive maneuver, by braking or accelerating. The system is designed to provide support in an emergency while always leaving the driver in full control.
