Remove and discard the piston rings.

- Remove and discard the piston pin retainers.
- Remove the piston pin.

NOTE
If the piston and connecting rod are to be reinstalled, they must be assembled in the same orientation. Mark the piston-to-connecting rod orientation for reassembly.
Remove the piston from the connecting rod.

Inspect the piston and connecting rod.

NOTE
Align the piston and connecting rod orientation marks made during disassembly.
The arrow on the top of the piston points to the front of the engine.
Align the piston alignment marks with the connecting rod and install the connecting rod into the piston.

Lubricate the piston pin with clean engine oil and install it.

Install the piston pin retainers.

Lubricate the piston rings with clean engine oil and install them.

NOTE
The upper and lower compression piston rings must be installed with the paint mark on the outside diameter of the ring facing up, and the ring gap positioned on the right side. The lower compression ring must be installed with the undercut side facing down.
Piston ring gaps for the upper and lower compression rings are not checked during installation.
