  2. Locate the Manual Park Release cable access cover on the lower instrument panel, on the lower left side of the steering column.
  3. Using a tool, carefully open the access cover.
  4. Turn the ignition on, but do not start the vehicle.
  5. Once in the driver's seat, fully depress the brake pedal and hold. Do not release. Pull the orange cable toward the driver's seat until the cable locks in the override position. Then release the cable.
  6. If done correctly, a message should display in the instrument cluster screen.
  7. With your foot still fully on the brake pedal, release the parking brake.
  8. Your vehicle remains in Neutral (N) for emergency towing purposes.
  9. Turn the ignition off.
  10. As soon as it is safe to do so, and there is no risk of the vehicle rolling, disconnect the negative (black) battery cable from the battery.

Returning Your Vehicle to Normal Operation

  1. As soon as it is safe to do so, reconnect the negative (black) battery cable to the battery.
  2. Apply the parking brake.
  3. Fully depress the brake pedal and hold. Do not release. Pull the orange cable outward toward the driver's seat to release it from the locked position.
  4. The cable will release and retract back to its original resting position.
  5. Secure the Manual Park Release cable back inside the instrument panel opening, install the access cover, and return it to its original position.
  6. With your foot fully on the brake pedal, start the vehicle. Confirm that the vehicle is in Park (P) and that the instrument cluster indicates Park (P).
  7. If the instrument cluster does not display Park (P) or a message is displayed on the instrument cluster screen, make sure you applied the parking brake before exiting the vehicle. Contact an authorized dealer for service.
