Folding the Rear Seatbacks

For cabin convenience, the rear seatbacks can be folded independently. Even if either outboard rear seatback is folded, passengers can still ride in the rear seat. If the center seatback is folded, passengers can still ride in either outboard seat.

For cabin convenience and to increase cargo space, the outboard rear seatbacks can be folded independently (see page 192).

Before folding a seatback, remove all items from the seat cushion.

1. Release the seat belt buckles from the seat cushions.

When folding the center rear seatback, use the seat belt bracket to detach the seat belt anchor for that seating position. Let the belt retract into the ceiling-mounted retractor, and place the buckle in its holder.

Make sure the rear armrest is folded.

2. Lower the seat head restraint to its lowest position.

3. Pull up the lever located at the top of the seatback.

4. Tilt the seatback forward.

Do not place heavy objects on the folded seatback.

To return the seatback to the upright position, repeat the procedure in reverse order. Before driving, make sure the seat is securely locked in its new position and the seat belts are in their normal position.

Make sure the detached center rear seat belt anchor is properly installed.

Before starting to drive, make sure the seatbacks are securely locked in the selected position.

If any seatback is folded down, do not use the parcel shelf (if equipped).

Make sure that all items in the cargo area are securely fastened. Unsecured items may be thrown forward with force in the event of sudden braking and injure vehicle occupants (see "Cargo Transport" on page 365).
