Steering Wheel Return Inspection

~1min read

Check that the steering wheel returns to the neutral position.

PROCEDURE

1. The force required to turn the steering wheel and return it to the neutral position should be the same as that required for moderate turns and U-turns.
2. With the steering wheel turned 90° and held in that position for several seconds while the vehicle moves at 35 km/h, after release the steering wheel should return to within 20° of the neutral position.

If the steering wheel is turned very quickly, the force required for turning may be temporarily increased at first. This is normal, especially at idle, as pump output is somewhat reduced.
