Emergency Stop Signal (ESS)

~1min read

The Emergency Stop Signal system warns the driver of the following vehicle by flashing the brake lights when the vehicle brakes rapidly and severely.

The system operates when:

- The vehicle stops suddenly (vehicle speed is above 55 km/h and vehicle deceleration is greater than 7 m/s2).

ABS is activated.

- When vehicle speed is below 40 km/h and ABS deactivates or the sudden stop situation ends, the brake lights stop flashing. Instead, the hazard warning lights automatically come on. The hazard warning lights turn off when vehicle speed drops below 10 km/h after the vehicle stops.

They also turn off when the vehicle is driven at low speed for a short time. They can be turned on by manually pressing the hazard warning light switch.
