Pedestrian Detection

~2min read

The sensor may be limited when:

  • The pedestrian is not fully detected by the camera recognition system, for example, if the pedestrian is leaning or not walking fully upright.
  • The pedestrian moves very fast or suddenly appears in the camera detection zone.
  • The pedestrian's clothing blends easily into the background, making it difficult to be detected by the camera recognition system.
  • External lighting is too bright (for example, when driving in bright sunlight or glare) or too dark (for example, when driving on a dark rural road at night).
  • It is difficult to detect and distinguish a pedestrian from other surrounding objects, for example, when there is a group of pedestrians or a large crowd.
  • There is an object with a human-like body structure.
  • The pedestrian is small.
  • The pedestrian is injured or has limited mobility.
  • Sensor recognition is limited.
  • The radar sensor or camera is blocked by a foreign object or debris.
  • Bad weather, such as heavy rain or snow, blocks the field of view of the radar sensor or camera.
  • When light comes from street lights or an oncoming vehicle is reflected on a wet road surface, such as a puddle on the road.
  • The field of view ahead is blocked by sun glare.
  • The windshield is fogged up; a clear view of the road is obstructed.
  • Excessive vehicle vibration during driving due to adverse road conditions

WARNING

  • Do not use Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) when towing a vehicle. Operating the FCA system while towing may adversely affect the safety of your vehicle or the towed vehicle.
  • Use extreme caution when the vehicle in front of you has cargo extending rearward from the cab, or when the vehicle in front of you has a higher ground clearance.
  • The FCA system is designed to detect and monitor a vehicle ahead or a pedestrian in the roadway using radar signals and camera recognition. It is not designed to detect bicycles, motorcycles, or smaller wheeled objects such as luggage bags, shopping carts, or strollers.
  • Never attempt to test the operation of the FCA system. Doing so may result in serious injury or death.

Information

In some cases, the FCA system may be disabled due to electromagnetic interference.
