Driving Your Vehicle

Warning

~5min read

If the vehicle is leaving its lane, the lane marker you are crossing will flash on the LCD display.

If the vehicle drifts out of its lane because the steering assistance torque is insufficient, the line indicator will flash.

• If the conditions for LKA activation are not satisfied, the system will switch to Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and only warn the driver when the vehicle crosses the lane markers. In this mode, the LDW system does not provide steering control inputs to the vehicle. Accordingly, you must take the necessary steps to maintain control of the vehicle and keep it within the lane.

If the driver removes their hands from the steering wheel for several seconds while LKA is active, the system will warn the driver.

WARNING

  • Always keep your hands on the steering wheel while driving.
  • If you hold the steering wheel with a light grip, the system may also generate a hands-off warning, because LKA may interpret the situation as if you are not gripping the wheel.

If the driver still does not have their hands on the steering wheel after several seconds, the system will only warn the driver when the vehicle crosses the lane lines. In this case, the system does not provide any steering inputs to the vehicle. Accordingly, you must take the necessary measures to maintain control of the vehicle and keep it within the lane.

However, once the driver's hands are back on the steering wheel, the system will again provide steering inputs if it detects the vehicle leaving the lane.

WARNING

  • The LKA system is a supplementary system only. It is the driver's responsibility to drive the vehicle safely and keep it within its lane.
  • Even while the system is steering, the driver can control the steering wheel.
  • Turn off the LKA system and drive without using the system in the following situations:
    - In bad weather
    - On poor road conditions
    - When the steering wheel must be controlled by the driver frequently.
  • The steering wheel may feel heavier when the system assists steering than when it is not.

✽ NOTICE

  • Although steering is assisted by the system, the driver must control the steering.
  • The steering wheel may feel heavier when steering is assisted by the system than when it is not.

The system will be cancelled when:

  • You change lanes using the turn signal.
    - Use the turn signal to change lanes.
    - If you change lanes without the turn signal, the steering wheel may be controlled.
  • LKA may transition to steering assist mode when the vehicle approaches the middle of the lane after the system is turned on or the lane has been changed. LKA cannot assist steering if the vehicle continuously follows the lane markings too closely until it transitions to steering assist mode.
  • Control of ESC (Electronic Stability Control) or VSM (Vehicle Stability Management).
  • Steering assistance will not operate when driving fast through a sharp curve.
  • Steering assist will not operate when vehicle speed is below 64 km/h and above 177 km/h. Always obey all traffic laws and drive safely.
  • Steering assist will not operate when you change lanes quickly.
  • Steering assistance will not operate when braking suddenly.
  • Steering assist will not operate when the lane is very wide or narrow.
  • Steering assist will not operate when only one side lane marking is detected.
  • When there are more than two lane markings, such as in a construction area.
  • The radius of the curve is too small.
  • When you turn the steering wheel suddenly, LKA will be temporarily deactivated.
  • Driving on a steep slope or hill.

DRIVER ATTENTION

The driver should be careful in the following situations. LKA may not operate properly when lane markings are poor or limited in recognition:

• When the lane and road conditions are poor

- It is difficult to distinguish the lane marking from the road, such as when the lane marker is covered with dust or sand.
- It is difficult to distinguish the color of the lane marking from the road.
- There is something that looks like a lane marking.
- The lane marking is unclear or damaged.
- The number of lanes increases/decreases or lane markings intersect (passing through a toll area / toll gate, merging/diverging lanes).
- There are more than two lane markers.
- The lane marking is too thick or thin.
- The lane marker is not visible due to snow, rain, stains, puddles, or other factors.
- A shadow is on the lane marker due to a median strip, guardrail, noise barrier, or other objects.
- When lane markings are complex or the road structure changes, such as at construction sites.
- There are pedestrian crossing signs or other symbols on the road.
- The lane suddenly disappears, for example at an intersection.
- The lane marking in a tunnel is covered with dirt or oil, etc.

• When external conditions interfere

- Brightness changes suddenly when entering/exiting a tunnel or passing under a bridge.
- Headlights are off at night or in a tunnel, or the light level is low.
- There is a border structure on the road surface.
- Light from street lamps, the sun, an oncoming vehicle, etc. is reflected by water on the road.
- When strong light shines from behind the vehicle.
- The distance to the vehicle ahead is very short, or the vehicle ahead blocks the lane line.
- You are driving on a steep slope or a sharp curve.
- The vehicle vibrates strongly.
- The temperature near the inside mirror is very high due to direct sunlight, etc.

• When forward visibility is poor

- The lens or windshield is covered with foreign material.
- The sensor cannot recognize the lane due to fog, heavy rain, or snow.
- The windshield fogs up due to humid air inside the vehicle.
- There is an object on the instrument panel that obstructs the camera.

WARNING

The Lane Keeping Assist system is a system that helps prevent the driver from leaving the lane. However, the driver should not rely solely on the system and should always take necessary safe driving actions.
