~4min read

This chapter summarizes several warning and indicator lights in the Kia Opirus, from the brake fluid light to the open trunk lid light. The airbag, engine control system and washer fluid warning lights are also explained in detail. Special attention should be paid to the malfunction indicator lamp: a continuously illuminated lamp may indicate catalytic converter damage. Prompt action protects not only the vehicle, but also the environment and your wallet.

Parking Brake & Brake Fluid Warning Light

Parking Brake Warning Light

This light illuminates when the ignition is switched on or the ignition switch is in the START position, if the parking brake is applied.

This warning light should go out after the parking brake is released.

Low Brake Fluid Warning Light

If the warning light stays on continuously, this may mean that the brake fluid level in the reservoir has dropped.

If the warning light does not go out:

1. Drive carefully to the next safe parking location and stop the vehicle.

2. With the engine switched off, check the brake fluid level and top up with brake fluid as required. Then check all brake system components for leaks.

3. Do not continue driving if a leak is detected, the warning light remains on, or the brakes are not functioning properly. Have your vehicle towed to an authorized KIA dealer to have the brake system checked and repaired as necessary.

To test the bulb, check whether the warning light (parking brake/brake fluid) illuminates when the ignition is switched on.

WARNING

It is dangerous to drive a vehicle when a warning light is illuminated. If the brake warning light stays on continuously, have the brake system of your vehicle checked and repaired as necessary by an authorized KIA dealer.

Trunk Lid Open Warning Light

This warning light illuminates if the trunk lid is not properly closed.

Low Fuel Warning Light

This warning light indicates that only a small amount of fuel remains. It illuminates when the fuel level drops to approx. 9 liters.

Refuel as soon as possible.

Door Open Warning Light

This warning light illuminates regardless of the ignition key position if any door is not fully closed.

In addition, the position indicator for the door that is not fully closed illuminates in the open door display.

High Beam Indicator Light

This indicator light illuminates when the high beams are switched on or when the headlight flasher is used.

Engine Control System Warning Light*

This warning light is part of the engine control system, which controls and monitors the emission control system components. If this warning light illuminates while driving, there may be a fault in the emission control system.

In general, your vehicle remains operable when this warning light illuminates and does not need to be towed. However, have the engine control system checked by an authorized KIA dealer as soon as possible.

CAUTION
  • If the vehicle is driven for an extended period with the malfunction indicator lamp illuminated ( ), the emission control system may be damaged. This could adversely affect operating readiness and/or fuel consumption.
  • If the malfunction indicator lamp ( ) begins to flash, there may be a fault in the catalytic converter, which can result in reduced engine power. Have the engine control system checked by an authorized KIA dealer as soon as possible.

Airbag Warning Light*

This warning light flashes or illuminates for approx. 6 seconds each time the ignition is switched on.

If this warning light does not go out or illuminates while driving, have your vehicle inspected immediately by an authorized KIA dealer.

Passenger Airbag OFF Indicator Light*

After the ignition is switched on (ignition key in ON position) or after the engine is started, the 'Passenger Airbag OFF' indicator light illuminates for approx. 4 - 7 seconds.

The 'Passenger Airbag OFF' indicator light also illuminates when the passenger airbag ON/OFF switch is set to OFF. When the passenger airbag ON/OFF switch is set to ON, the 'Passenger Airbag OFF' indicator light goes out again.

WARNING

If the passenger airbag ON/OFF switch malfunctions, the 'Passenger Airbag OFF' indicator light will not illuminate, and the passenger airbag will deploy in a frontal collision even if the passenger airbag ON/OFF switch is in the ON position.

If the passenger airbag ON/OFF switch malfunctions, have an authorized KIA dealer inspect the passenger airbag ON/OFF switch and the SRS airbag system as soon as possible.

Washer Fluid Level Low Warning Light*

This warning light indicates that the washer fluid level is low.

Refill the windshield washer fluid reservoir as soon as possible.

Cruise Control Indicator Light*
