Indicator and warning lights and audible signals. ABS warning light *. Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)*. Engine oil pressure warning light
Warning lights such as the ABS, EBD and engine oil pressure warning lights are essential for quick fault diagnosis in the Kia Opirus. They give early notice of critical conditions such as low oil pressure or brake faults. This chapter explains the symbols and how the vehicle responds to these warnings. If several warning lights come on at the same time, visit an authorized KIA dealer immediately for maximum safety.
Warning Lights and Audible Signals
Function Check
The warning lights can be checked with the ignition on (ignition key in the ON position, engine not started). Have any lights that do not come on in this key position, as designed by the system, checked by an authorized KIA dealer.
After starting the engine, make sure that all warning lights have gone out. If a warning light remains on while the engine is running, the corresponding system must be checked. The brake warning light should also go out after the parking brake is released. If the fuel level falls below a certain minimum, the fuel warning light stays on.
ABS Warning Light *
This light comes on for approx. 3 seconds after the ignition is switched on, and then goes out if the system is functioning properly.
If the light does not go out, there may be a malfunction in the ABS system. Contact an authorized KIA dealer as soon as possible.
Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) *
If the two warning lights shown come on at the same time, there may be a malfunction in the ABS and EBD system.
In this case, both the ABS system and the conventional brake system may be malfunctioning. Have your vehicle inspected by an authorized KIA dealer immediately.
WARNINGIf the two warning lights (ABS and BRAKE) come on at the same time and do not go out, the brake system is not functioning properly. During a hard braking maneuver, you may unexpectedly end up in a dangerous situation.
In this case, do not drive fast and avoid sudden, hard braking.
Have your vehicle inspected by an authorized KIA dealer as soon as possible.
Engine Oil Pressure Warning Light
When this warning light comes on, it indicates that the engine oil pressure is low.
If this warning light comes on while driving:
1. Drive carefully to the side of the road and stop the vehicle.
2. With the engine switched off, check the engine oil level. Add the required amount of oil if the level is too low.
If the warning light remains on after adding engine oil, or if no engine oil is available, call an authorized KIA dealer or a roadside assistance service.
CAUTIONIf the engine is not switched off immediately, severe engine damage may occur.
The warning systems of the Kia Opirus 2003–2011, such as the ABS, EBD and oil pressure warning lights, help the driver detect malfunctions. They provide early indications of necessary maintenance or repair work.
Special attention should be paid to the simultaneous illumination of the ABS and brake warning lights, as this may indicate a serious malfunction. This helps the Kia Opirus stay safe on the road at all times.
Regular function checks allow problems to be detected and corrected early, keeping the vehicle safe over the long term.
