Immobilizer indicator light*
The immobilizer indicator light is part of the anti-theft system in the Kia Opirus. It responds to the electronic key and signals whether starting is permitted or blocked. This section covers all scenarios, from a weak key battery to recognition faults. If you know the display patterns, you can respond appropriately and stay mobile and protected in everyday use.

With main and spare keys
This light comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position for starting.
If the light goes out or flashes in the ON position before the engine is started, have the system checked by an authorized KIA dealer.
With the electronic key*
In the cases described below, the immobilizer indicator light comes on, flashes or goes out.
- If the ignition switch is in the LOCK position, an electronic key is detected in the vehicle, and you depress the brake pedal, the indicator light comes on for approx. 10 seconds. When the engine is started or the brake pedal is released, the indicator light goes out immediately. For more information on starting the engine with the electronic key, see page 4-4.
- The indicator light flashes when no electronic key is detected in the vehicle.
- If the ignition switch is in the ON position, the engine has not yet been started, and an electronic key is detected in the vehicle, the indicator light comes on (until the engine is started). If no electronic key is detected in the vehicle, the indicator light goes out after flashing.
- If the ignition switch is turned to the ON position and no electronic key is detected in the vehicle, the indicator light goes out after flashing.
- If a door is opened and closed while the ignition switch is in the ACC or ON position, the system checks whether the electronic key is in the vehicle. If a key is detected, the indicator light comes on. If no key is detected, an audible alarm sounds for 6 seconds. In the ACC position the indicator light may then be off; in the ON position it is on.
- If the ignition switch is in the ON position and the indicator light goes out after just 2 seconds, there may be a malfunction. Have your vehicle checked by an authorized KIA dealer.
- If no electronic key is detected in the vehicle (key not in the vehicle or key battery weak), the immobilizer indicator light flashes and you cannot start the engine.
If only the key battery is weak, you can start the engine by inserting the key into the ignition lock.
Malfunctions of the electronic key or related system components are indicated by the indicator light flashing.
The immobilizer in the Kia Opirus 2003–2011 reliably protects against unauthorized use of the vehicle. The indicator light clearly informs the driver of the system status and helps avoid operating errors.
Whether with a mechanical or electronic key, the system is designed for maximum security and simple operation. This keeps the Kia Opirus well protected at all times.
Especially in the event of faults or a weak key battery, the display helps the driver take the right action.
