Automatic defogging actuator
Description and Operation
Description
The automatic defogging sensor is mounted on the windshield and detects moisture; the blower is activated to prevent fogging and thus provide better visibility and comfort. The air conditioning control unit receives the signal from the sensor and controls the defogging function by operating the intake actuator, air conditioning, automatic defogging actuator, blower speed and mode actuator.

TEST
Turn the ignition "OFF".
Disconnect the connector from the automatic defogging actuator.
Apply power (+) to terminal 3 of the mode actuator connector and ground (-) to terminal 7. Then check whether the motor operates in the defrost mode. Reverse the connections to check whether the reverse operation occurs.
Connect the connector to the automatic heater actuator sensor.
Turn the ignition "ON".
Check the feedback potentiometer. To do this, measure the voltage between terminals 4 and 5.

SPECIFICATIONS
Door position VOLTAGE (V) Fault detection DEF (ON) 1.7 ± 0.15 V Low voltage: 0.6 V or less DEF (OFF) 4.7 ± 0.15 V High voltage: 4.7 V or more
The current position is reported to the actuator for control.
If the measured voltage does not meet the specification, replace with a known good automatic heater actuator.
| 8th. | If the problem is proven to persist with the automatic defogging actuator, replace the actuator. |
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Disconnect the battery ground cable.
Remove the glove box housing.
(Refer to Body - "Glove Box Housing")
Loosen the mounting screw and remove the passenger-side footwell air duct (A).

Disconnect the connector, then remove the automatic defogging actuator (A) after loosening the screws.

Installation is the reverse of removal.
