Components and Component Location

Component Location

1. Integrated Body Control Module (BCM)
2. Front Parking Distance Warning Sensor (PDW-F)
3. Rear Parking Distance Warning Sensor (PDW-R)

Description and Operation

Description

  • The PDW consists of 8 sensors (front: 4 pcs., rear: 4 pcs.), which are used to detect obstacles and transmit the result as three separate warning levels: first, second and third, to the IBU via LIN communication.

  • The IBU determines the alarm level from the communication message transmitted by the slave sensors, then activates the buzzer or transmits data for display.

System Operation Specification

Initial Mode

  1. System Initialization Time

    • PDW-F: IGN1 ON + shift lever in D + speed below 15 km/h

    • PDW-R: IGN1 ON + shift lever in R

  2. The PDW recognizes the LID and sets the sensor ID during initialization.

  3. The PDW activates each sensor and then performs diagnostics after IPM (IBU) initialization is completed.

  4. The PDW start buzzer operates normally when no sensor sends an error message and after error diagnostics are completed.

  5. If any malfunction is received from any sensor, the PDW start buzzer does not sound, but the warning is activated for a moment.

If the display option is equipped, the warning indicator is also displayed.

  6. The IBU stores the completed sensor initialization status.

Normal Mode

  1. PDW-F: Line communication starts and the procedure is maintained after IGN1 ON + D shift + speed below 15 km/h.

PDW-R: Line communication starts and the procedure is maintained after IGN1 ON + R gear engagement.

  2. After initialization, the subroutine starts immediately without the PDW start warning sound.

  3. The obstacle alarm has 3 levels: level 1, 2 and 3. Alarms 1 and 2 have intermittent sounds, while alarm 3 has a continuous sound. There is no level 1 alarm for the front ultrasonic sensor.

  4. On the display, the data from each sensor is sent from the IBU to the instrument cluster for display.

  5. The effective vehicle speed for PDW operation is less than 10 km/h.

  6. Operation does not start or stop in N or P gear.
