Description and Operation
Description
The Surround View Monitor (SVM) provides 360-degree video surveillance around the entire perimeter of the vehicle. The system consists of 4 ultra-wide-angle cameras installed around the vehicle (front, both sides and rear).
Distortion compensation, viewpoint conversion, and video merging technologies are applied to the video images from these cameras to produce a bird's-eye view image of the area around the vehicle, as well as various other viewing modes.
The SVM system provides a video image of the vehicle's surroundings while parking or while driving at low speed, to enhance the driver's safety and convenience.
In addition, it is equipped with synchronized guide line display on the steering wheel, front and rear obstacle warning, and A/S tolerance compensation (including In-Line).

This system displays video images from the ultra-wide-angle cameras installed on the 4 sides of the vehicle on the head unit screen. It shows a 360-degree bird's-eye view of the area around the vehicle, as well as various other viewing modes.
Blind Spot Monitor (BVM)
The Blind Spot Monitor (BVM) is a driving safety system that helps provide a more complete view of areas that are normally not visible in the side mirrors when the vehicle attempts to change lanes.

The BVM system gives the driver a more complete view that is normally not visible in the side rearview mirrors in certain situations, such as when changing lanes. The system helps avoid any blind spot accidents.
The rear view is displayed on the cluster screen when the headlights are on, when the driver raises and lowers the light switch.
SVM also provides an adjustable left/right side view without adding additional cameras.
This helps minimize driver distraction by displaying the rear side view, which is normally difficult to see.
Main Specifications
Surrounding Area Video Display of the Vehicle
The surround view function displays a 360-degree video image captured by the four cameras on the head unit screen while the vehicle moves at low speed or in reverse. The SVM system displays a total of 8 video modes for the surround view, based on the driving condition of the vehicle and the driver's selection.
Guide Line Display and Steering Wheel Synchronization Function
Guide line indication and steering wheel synchronization function: This function assists the driver when parking by synchronizing the steering wheel with the rear view video display with guide lines, helping to determine the direction of the vehicle moving in reverse.
Front/Rear Object Warning (Obstacle Detection Function)
The system receives obstacle warning signals from the PDW sensors installed at the front/rear of the vehicle and displays the obstacle location on the AVN head unit screen.
Tolerance Compensation (Including A/S)
Manual tolerance compensation software is built into the SVM ECM to compensate for SVM deviation that may occur due to assembly tolerances of the installation line. You must first set up a proper working environment to perform the correct tolerance compensation.
Rear view display while driving
This function displays the rear view even in N or D upon driver request. It provides an image optimized for driving conditions, unlike the parking mode.

SVM mode entry conditions
Vehicle information is accessed regularly, even after entering SVM mode. When the conditions are met, switching from front mode to rear mode and vice versa is possible.
When switching modes, the displayed view on the screen may be the initial view or the previous view, depending on the conditions.
If the switching mode is an initial entry, the default view based on front or rear is selected. If continuous front-rear switching occurs, such as repeated forward and reverse movement for parking, the previous view is recalled and displayed.
Initial entry: when the rear and front view modes are displayed on the screen for the first time in SVM mode.
Re-entry: When switching from SVM mode to another mode, without turning off the SVM by turning the ignition, return to the previous mode.
(e.g., rear → front → rear: re-enter rear/front mode; front → rear → front: re-enter front mode)
| Switching Mode | Vehicle Speed | Mechanism | SVM Switch | Display View |
| Rear → Front | Below 10 mph (15 km/h) | Range "R" or range "P" excluded | ON | Initial Entry: front view is set in the initial view mode option. |
| Re-entry: the last view mode displayed in the previous front mode. | ||||
| Front → Rear | Not applicable | Reverse Gear | Not applicable | Initial Entry: rear view is set in the initial view mode option |
| Re-entry: the last view mode displayed in the previous rear mode. |
SVM mode cancellation
If any of the conditions below occur in SVM mode, SVM turns off and video is not displayed.
| OFF mode | Vehicle Speed | Mechanism | SVM Switch | Notes |
| Front mode | Above 10 mph (15 km/h) | Range "R" or range "P" | OFF | If any one of the three conditions is met |
| Rear mode | Not applicable | Except shift position "R" | Not applicable | If any one of the two conditions is met |
SVM options
For user convenience, the SVM provides the user with three options to choose from.
The option change window (parking guide settings) is displayed on the AVN. Only the changed options are transmitted to the SVM ECU via M_CAN.
These three options apply as soon as they are selected by the user. Based on the conditions, the initial displayed views are as follows.
| Option | Function | Default settings |
| Steering Lock | Steering lock guide lines to show the vehicle's direction of travel during parking. | Classification code |
| Close Distance Warning Indicator | Indicates obstacle detection at the front and rear | Classification code |
| Initial View Mode Setting | Default view displayed when entering SVM mode | Front view + surround view |
| Rear view + Around view |
Steering Wheel Lock Guide Indication Operations
Steering lock trace information is indicated using the steering wheel angle value periodically received by the SVM ECU via the C-CAN bus.
The rear area combination displays the rear mode (split-screen mode) and shows the expected vehicle travel path, displayed in the wide view.

SVM System
SVM Video Output
The SVM ECU displays images from the four installed cameras after performing distortion correction and image synthesis steps, and then displays steering assist guidance in analog format.
SVM Switch
Signals are input for control in the direct display mode when the switch is turned on.
Ignition Input
The SVM ECU displays video only when IGN2 is on, and limits video output to SVM OFF when IGN2 is off.
To check whether IGN2 is on, the SVM ECU uses the IGN signal line or uses M-CAN messages routed to the C-CAN from the IGPM (gateway).
Switch Indicator Output
The SVM ECU outputs LED power to the SVM switch in the form of a PWM signal to notify the driver whether the SVM switch is pressed.
Chassis CAN (C-CAN) Input
The SVM ECU receives vehicle status data via the C-CAN bus and determines whether to perform SVM key operations.
Multimedia CAN Input/Output
The relevant information is processed after receiving the routed M-CAN signals from the ICU to the C-CAN.
The routed M-CAN signals are exchanged for transmitting and receiving data as follows:

Tolerance Compensation
Tolerance compensation compensates for the around view video error caused by installation tolerance when the four cameras that make up the SVM system are installed.
Tolerance compensation must be performed when the following actions are carried out:
When removing and installing the wide-angle camera.
When performing body work, such as work on the body that causes the focus of the wide-angle camera to change.
When replacing the door mirror with a wide-angle camera.
When replacing the around view control unit.
Tolerance Compensation Environment

Tolerance Compensation Guide Procedure
Prepare in advance as shown below.
Make sure the hood, trunk and vehicle doors are closed.
Close the driver's door after getting in.
Turn the ignition to the "IGN" position.
Extend all side mirrors.
Shift the transmission to N.
Check the blinking status of the LED indicator lamp in the SVM switch.
During preparation, do not install an exhaust fan inhaler or other equipment that may block the view of the rear view cameras.
Also, since exhaust gas may block the rear view image, blow out smoke with a fan before performing tolerance compensation with the ignition on.
Apply the foot brake or electronic parking brake (EPB) to hold the vehicle in place.
Before entering tolerance compensation mode, check the normal operation of the SVM ECU and cameras by performing the following.
Make sure the SVM initial setting screen is displayed. (Front view image + around view image when shifted to N)
Make sure the front, rear, left and right around view images are displayed correctly on the monitor.
If the images are displayed correctly, enter tolerance compensation mode. Otherwise, if the images are displayed incorrectly or not displayed, replace the corresponding part.
Install two compensation scales, two compensation reference line boards, and four compensation targets around the vehicle, referring to the manual supplied with the tools.

Keep the ignition on with the vehicle stopped, make sure the transmission is in P and apply the parking brake, even on level ground.
Perform the work with SVM on.
Connect the KDS to the vehicle.
Select the vehicle model and system.
Enter the special function in the KDS.
Perform manual SVM tolerance compensation as shown on the KDS diagnostic device.

To confirm that calibration is complete, check the vehicle and calibration on the AVN monitor and press [OK].
If calibration was not performed properly, click [Cancel] and re-enter the calibration points.
