Tire Replacement

When a tire is worn evenly, the tread wear indicator appears as a continuous band across the tread. This means the tread depth is less than 1.6 mm (1/16 inch). If the band appears, replace the tire with a new one.

Do not wait until the band appears across the full width of the tread before replacing the tire.

WARNING - Tire Replacement
  • Driving on worn tires is very dangerous. Worn tires reduce braking effectiveness, steering precision, and traction.
  • Your vehicle is equipped with tires designed for safe driving and handling.
  • Do not use tires and wheels with a size or type different from those originally installed on the vehicle.

They affect the safety and performance of the vehicle, which may lead to handling problems or to rollover of the vehicle and serious personal injury. When replacing tires, make sure that all 4 tires are of the same size and type, tread pattern, same brand and load rating, and are mounted on original and identical wheels.

  • Using a different tire size or type may seriously affect driving, handling, ground clearance, braking distance, distance between the tire and the body, ground clearance of snow tires, and speedometer readings.
  • It is best to replace all four tires at once. If this is not possible or necessary, replace the tires in pairs, either both front or both rear. Replacing only one tire may seriously adversely affect the vehicle's handling.
  • The ABS system works by comparing wheel speeds. Tire size may affect wheel speed. When replacing tires, make sure that all 4 tires are of the same type as originally installed on the vehicle.

Using tires of different sizes may cause the ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) and ESP (Electronic Stability Program) (if equipped) to operate irregularly.

Replacing the tire on the compact spare wheel (if equipped in the vehicle)

The tread of the tire on the compact spare wheel wears out faster than the tread of the tire on a wheel in regular use. Replace the tire when the tread wear indicator bars on the tire become visible. The replacement compact spare tire must be the same size and type as the tire fitted on the new vehicle, and must be mounted on the same compact spare wheel. The compact tire is not intended to be mounted on a wheel of normal size, and the compact spare wheel is not intended to be fitted with a normal tire.
