Tire replacement with TPMS
If you have a flat tire, the low tire pressure warning light will illuminate.
Go to an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible to have the tire repaired, or replace the damaged tire with the spare tire.
CAUTION Never use a tire repair kit that is not approved by Kia when a tire needs repair and/or has low pressure.Sealant not approved by Kia may damage the pressure sensor. Sealant on the pressure sensor and in the wheel should be removed when replacing the tire with a new one.
Each wheel is equipped with a tire pressure sensor mounted inside the tire behind the valve stem. You must use wheels suitable for TPMS. It is recommended that wheel tires always be serviced by an authorized Kia dealer. Even after replacing a low-pressure tire with the spare, the low tire pressure warning light will remain illuminated until that tire is replaced.
After replacing a tire with low pressure with the spare tire, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) malfunction indicator may light up after a few minutes because the sensor mounted on the spare wheel has not been activated.
After inflating the low-pressure tire to the recommended pressure and reinstalling it on the wheel, or after an authorized Kia dealer has activated the TPMS sensor mounted on the spare wheel, the TPMS malfunction indicator and the low tire pressure warning light will go off within a few minutes of driving. If the indicator does not go off after a few minutes of driving, contact an authorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION If the original tire is replaced with the spare tire, the TPMS sensor on the replaced spare tire should be activated and the TPMS sensor on the original tire deactivated. If the TPMS sensor of the original tire, installed on the spare tire, is still active, the tire pressure monitoring system may not function properly. Have it repaired or replaced by an authorized Kia dealer. It may not be possible to determine low tire pressure by simply looking at the tires. Always use a good-quality tire pressure gauge to measure tire pressure. Note that a hot tire (after driving) shows a higher pressure reading than a cold tire (after the vehicle has been parked for at least 3 hours and has traveled less than 1 mile (1.6 km) during that 3-hour period). Allow the tires to cool down before measuring the tire pressure. Always check that the tires are cold before inflating them to the specified pressure. A cold tire means the vehicle has been parked for 3 hours and has traveled no more than 1 mile (1.6 km) during those 3 hours.
CAUTION Do not use any tire sealant, except the Tire Mobility Kit approved by Kia, if the vehicle is equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Liquid sealant may damage the tire pressure sensors. WARNING - TPMS- The TPMS cannot warn the driver of a serious and sudden tire failure caused by external factors, such as nails or debris.
- If the driver feels any instability in the vehicle, immediately release the accelerator pedal, gradually brake with light force, and pull over to a safe place off the road.
WARNING Improper handling, modification or disabling of the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) components may void the warranty for that part of the vehicle.
