Maintenance precautions

~3min read

Always use caution when inspecting or servicing your vehicle to avoid serious injury or damage to your vehicle. The following general precautions must be observed strictly.

WARNING

  • Park the vehicle on a level surface, set the parking brake, and chock the wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving. Place the selector lever in the P (Park) position.
  • Make sure the ignition key is in the OFF or LOCK position before replacing or repairing any parts.
  • If you must work on a running engine, keep your hands, clothing, hair, and tools away from the fans, belts, and other moving parts.
  • It is recommended that you remove or secure loose clothing before working on your vehicle. Also remove your watch, rings, and other jewelry.
  • Always wear safety glasses when working on your vehicle.
  • Your vehicle is equipped with an automatic engine cooling fan that may start at any time without warning, even when the ignition key is in the OFF position and the engine is not running. To prevent injury, always disconnect the negative battery cable before working near the fan.
  • If you must run the engine in an enclosed area, such as a garage, make sure the area is properly ventilated and the exhaust gas can escape.
  • Never get under a vehicle that is supported only by a jack. If work under the vehicle is required, use safety stands to support it.
  • On gasoline engine models, fuel filter and fuel line service must be performed by a NISSAN dealer because the pressure in these lines is very high, even when the engine is off.

WARNING

  • Do not perform any work under the hood when the engine is hot. Turn off the engine and wait for it to cool down.
  • Avoid all contact with used engine oil or engine coolant. Improper disposal of engine oil, engine coolant, or any other fluid used in a vehicle can harm the environment. Always observe local regulations regarding the disposal of fluids used in a vehicle.
  • Never disconnect the harness connector of components related to the engine or CVT while the ignition switch is in the ON position.
  • Never connect or disconnect the battery or any other transistorized component while the ignition switch is in the ON position.

This section provides guidelines for procedures that can be easily performed by the owner.

You may also purchase a NISSAN Service Manual. Refer to the "How to Order the Owner's Manual or Service Manual" section in the "Technical Data and Consumer Information" chapter of this manual.

Keep in mind that incomplete or improper work may result in operating problems or excessive exhaust emissions, and may affect your vehicle's warranty coverage. If in doubt, have your vehicle repaired by a NISSAN dealer.
