Engine cooling system
In this manual: Maintenance and owner do-it-yourself
~2min read
The engine cooling system is filled at the factory with a pre-diluted mixture of 50% genuine NISSAN long-life antifreeze/coolant (blue) and 50% water to provide year-round freezing protection. The antifreeze solution contains rust and corrosion inhibitors. It is not necessary to add any additives to the cooling system.
WARNING
- Never remove the radiator cap or coolant reservoir cap while the engine is hot.
WARNING
- Never use cooling system additives such as radiator sealant stop-leak products. Additives can clog the cooling system and cause damage to the engine, transaxle, or cooling system.
- When adding or replacing antifreeze/coolant, be sure to use only genuine NISSAN long-life antifreeze/coolant (blue) or an equivalent product. Genuine NISSAN long-life antifreeze/coolant (blue) is pre-diluted to provide freezing protection to -37 C (-34 F). If additional freezing protection is required due to the extreme temperatures where the vehicle is operated, add genuine NISSAN long-life antifreeze/coolant concentrate following the directions on the container. If you use an equivalent product to NISSAN long-life antifreeze/coolant (blue), follow the antifreeze manufacturer's directions to maintain minimum freezing protection to -37 C (-34 F). Using coolant types other than genuine NISSAN long-life antifreeze/coolant (blue) or an equivalent product may damage the engine cooling system.
- The service life of genuine coolant is 168,000 km (105,000 miles) or seven years. If you mix a coolant type other than genuine NISSAN long-life antifreeze/coolant (blue), including NISSAN long-life antifreeze/coolant (green), or use non-distilled water, the service life of the genuine coolant will be reduced.
