~2min read

FRONT BRAKE DISCS Warning: Discs are replaced only in pairs and together with a set of pads. Inspection

PROCEDURE

1. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it on stands.

2. Remove the wheels.

3. Rotate the disc slowly and check its condition. If necessary, remove the pads.

4. Replace the disc if it has cracks or deep scoring.

5. If a lip has formed on the disc due to wear, measure the disc thickness.

6. Measure the thickness at several points, both at the pad contact area and at the edge.

7. If the thickness at the worn areas is equal to or less than the minimum thickness, replace the disc.

8. Check the hub bearing adjustment, then check disc runout with a dial indicator or by inserting feeler gauges, for example between the disc and the caliper bracket.

9. If runout exceeds the specification, remove the disc, turn it over and reinstall it on the hub.

10. If runout still exceeds the specification, replace the disc.

11. Check the disc at the mounting points and for damage elsewhere.

Removal

PROCEDURE

2. Remove the two bolts from the caliper bracket, remove the caliper, move it aside and secure it.

3. If the disc is not being replaced, make alignment marks on the disc and hub.

5. If the disc is difficult to remove, displace it by evenly tightening M8 bolts into the special threaded holes.

Installation

PROCEDURE

1. Clean the mating surfaces of the hub and disc.

2. Install the disc, aligning the marks made earlier (if reinstalling the removed disc).

3. Remove the anti-corrosion coating from the new disc.

4. Install the caliper and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

5. Depress the brake pedal several times.

6. Install the wheel and lower the vehicle. Before driving, check the brake operation.
