Front Brake Pads
GENERAL INFORMATION
WARNING: Pads are replaced only as a set for one axle. When cleaning pads, remove dust and dirt by wiping with a rag moistened with alcohol; blowing is prohibited.Replacement
PROCEDURE
1. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it on stands.
2. Remove the front wheels.
3. Pull the caliper toward you so that the piston enters the cylinder, monitoring the fluid level in the reservoir.

4. If necessary, press the piston back using a C-clamp.

5. Unscrew the caliper guide pins (slide pins).

6. Remove the caliper from the disc.
7. Note that the outer pad may remain in the bracket.
8. After removing the caliper, do not depress the brake pedal.

9. Secure the caliper so that it does not hang on the hose.

10. Remove the adjusting shims.

11. Remove the pads.

12. Remove the pad retainers.
13. Check the thickness of the friction linings.
14. If the thickness of at least one lining is below the limit, or the pads are heavily contaminated, replace all pads as a set for one axle.
15. Find and eliminate the cause of contamination.
16. Do not swap pads from side to side to compensate for wear.
17. If the pads are in satisfactory condition, clean them, removing ingrained dirt and large particles.
18. Clean the pad contact surfaces in the caliper and bracket.
19. Before assembly, check the free movement of the guide pins in the bracket and caliper, and the condition of the rubber boots.
20. Check the condition of the piston seals, the piston for corrosion, and for signs of leakage.
21. If the pads are being replaced, the piston must be pushed back to make room for the new pads.
22. When pushing back the piston, monitor the fluid level; remove excess fluid with a rubber bulb or syringe.
23. Lightly apply anti-squeal grease to the pad backing plates, shims, and spring clips.
24. Install the clips, pads, and shims into the caliper bracket. The outer pad is installed into the bracket, and the inner pad into the caliper.
25. Make sure the inner pad retainer engages with the piston.
26. Install the caliper, apply thread-locking compound to the guide pins, and tighten them.
27. Tighten the guide pins to the specified torque.
28. Check that the caliper slides freely on the guide pins.
29. Repeat the described steps for the brake on the other wheel.
30. Press the brake pedal several times.
31. Install the wheels and lower the vehicle.
32. Check the fluid level.
33. Before driving, check the operation of the brakes.
