Tires - Rotation direction. Tires - Wear indicator
The Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016) covers rotation direction and wear indicator, explaining correct fitting and safe use. This section explains how the direction of rotation is marked and why regularly swapping between front and rear axles is important. The wear indicator, which makes the condition of the tire visible, is also described. Guidance on replacing tires in time supports road safety.
Tires - Rotation direction
Tires with a tread pattern that are intended to rotate in one direction only are marked with an arrow showing the direction of rotation.

The arrow points in the direction of tire rotation.
Keep the tires rotating in the same direction throughout their entire service life.
Tires should only be swapped between front and rear, never between left and right and vice versa. If the tires are not fitted correctly, both the braking performance of the vehicle and the ability to disperse rain, snow and slush deteriorate. The tires with the most tread should always be at the rear (to reduce the risk of sliding out).
CAUTIONMake sure that both pairs of tires are identical in type, size
and make.
Maintain the tire pressure recommended in the tire pressure table.

Tires - Wear indicator
A wear indicator shows the tread depth status of the tyre.

Wear indicator.
The wear indicator is a narrow ridge that runs across the longitudinal tread grooves of the tyre. The letters TWI (Tread Wear Indicator) are marked on the tyre sidewall. When the tread depth of the tyre has worn down to 1.6 mm, the tread surface and the wear indicators are level. The tyres must then be replaced immediately. Note that tyres with low tread depth have very poor traction on wet or snowy roads.

The rotation direction of directional-tread tyres on the Volvo S80 (2nd gen) is clearly specified. An arrow on the tyre sidewall indicates the correct direction of rotation. This optimises water dispersion and improves braking performance.
The wear indicator shows the condition of the tyre. As soon as the tread depth reaches 1.6 mm, the tyre must be replaced immediately. This is the only way to ensure safety on wet and snowy roads.
Volvo places great emphasis on correct fitting and regular checking of the tyres for maximum driving safety.
