~4min read

The follow-up check after using the Temporary Mobility Kit on the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016) is a critical safety step. This section describes the recommended checks after the first drive and the evaluation of the tire pressure. It also explains regular tire inflation with the compressor. Notes on the correct use of the sealant and on environmentally responsible disposal complete the information.

Temporary tire sealing* - Follow-up check

If a tire has been sealed with the temporary tire sealing kit, Temporary Mobility Kit (TMK), a follow-up check must be carried out after driving approximately 3 kilometers.

Checking tire pressure

1. Reconnect the equipment.

2. Read the tire pressure on the pressure gauge.

  • If it is less than 1.333 bar, the tire has not been sufficiently sealed.

Do not continue driving. Contact a tire service center.

  • If the tire pressure is more than 1.3 bar33, inflate the tire to the tire pressure specified in the tire pressure table, see Tires - approved tire pressure. If the tire pressure is too high, release air using the pressure reducing valve.
WARNING

Do not unscrew the bottle. It has a non-return valve that prevents leakage.

3. Make sure the compressor is switched off. Disconnect the air hose and the cable.

Fit the valve cap.

CAUTION
  • After inflating a tire, always refit the valve cap so that the valve is not damaged by stones, dirt or similar.
  • Use only plastic valve caps. Metal valve caps can rust and then be difficult to unscrew.
CAUTION

After use, the sealant bottle and the hose must be replaced.

We recommend having this replacement carried out by a Volvo Authorized Retailer.

WARNING Check the tire pressure regularly.

Volvo recommends visiting the nearest Volvo Authorized Retailer to have the damaged tire replaced or repaired.

Inform the workshop that the tire contains tire sealant.

WARNING

After using the temporary tire kit, do not exceed a speed of 80 km/h. We recommend visiting a Volvo Authorized Retailer to have the sealed tire inspected (maximum driving distance 200 km/h). Workshop personnel can determine whether the tire can be repaired or must be replaced.

Temporary tire sealing kit* - Inflating tires

The vehicle's original tires can be inflated using the compressor in the temporary tire sealing kit.

1. The compressor must be switched off. Make sure the switch is in position 0 and lay out the cable and air hose.

2. Unscrew the valve cap of the wheel and screw the valve connector of the air hose onto the tire valve as far as it will go.

WARNING

Inhaling car exhaust fumes is potentially fatal. Never run the engine in rooms with insufficient or no ventilation.

WARNING

Never leave children unattended in the vehicle with the engine running.

3. Connect the cable to one of the vehicle's 12 V sockets and start the engine.

4. Switch on the compressor by setting the switch to position I.

IMPORTANT

Risk of overheating. The compressor must not run for more than 10 minutes.

5. Inflate the tires to the specified pressure according to the tire pressure table, see Tires - approved tire pressure. If the tire pressure is too high, release air using the pressure reducing valve.

6. Switch off the compressor. Disconnect the air hose and the cable.

7. Fit the valve cap.

Harmful if swallowed. May cause allergic reactions on skin contact.

Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

Keep out of the reach of children.

- Temporary tire sealant

The follow-up check after temporary sealing on the Volvo S80 (2nd gen) is critical. After driving 3 km, check the tire pressure. If it is below 1.3 bar, do not continue driving; visit a workshop.

The compressor is also suitable for regular tire inflation. Replace the sealant bottle before its expiry date; after use, dispose of it as hazardous waste.

FAQ

How long may the compressor run?
No more than 10 minutes, to prevent overheating.

Why should the bottle not be unscrewed?
It is fitted with a non-return valve to prevent leakage. The bottle should be replaced by a workshop.
