Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS)* 22 - activate/ deactivate23. Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS)* 25 - Recommendations. Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM
The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) in the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016) reliably warns of low tire pressure and thus contributes to safety. This section explains how to activate and deactivate the system via the MY CAR menu, as well as recommendations for installing and replacing sensors. The information is supplemented by tips on handling run-flat tires and on safe driving in the event of pressure loss. Notes on the warning symbols and on correct behavior in an emergency promote safe operation.
Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS)*22 - activate/ deactivate23
The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System)* warns the driver if the pressure in one or more tyres of the vehicle is too low.
CAUTIONThe vehicle must be stationary when activating or deactivating the tire pressure monitoring system.
Calibration is performed using the controls in the centre console, see MY CAR.
- Start the engine.
- Select the MY CAR menu system to open the tyre pressure menus.
- Select the tire pressure and press OK.
> When the system is activated, an X appears in the information display; it disappears when the system is deactivated.

Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS)*25 - Recommendations
The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System)* warns the driver if the pressure in one or more tyres of the vehicle is too low.
- Volvo recommends fitting TPMS sensors on all wheels of the vehicle, including the winter tires.
- Volvo recommends not swapping the wheel sensors between wheels.
- The spare wheel is not equipped with a TPMS sensor.
- If the spare wheel or another wheel without a TPMS sensor is fitted, the instrument cluster displays the fault message Tire pressure system service required.
- If a wheel is replaced or the TPMS sensor is moved to a different wheel, replace the seal, nut and valve core.
- When installing the TPMS sensor, the vehicle must be switched off for at least 15 minutes; otherwise, a fault message will appear in the instrument cluster.
When inflating a tire equipped with TPMS, place the pump nozzle straight onto the valve so as not to damage the valve.
CAUTION- After inflating a tire, always refit the valve cap so that the valve is not damaged by stones, dirt or similar.
- Use only plastic valve caps. Metal valve caps can rust and then be difficult to unscrew.
If you want to change to a different tire size, the TPMS must be reconfigured. For more information, contact a Volvo dealer.

Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS)*27 - Run-flat tires*
When SST (Self Supporting Run-Flat Tires)* is selected, the vehicle is also equipped with TPMS.
This tire type has specially reinforced sidewalls, which make it possible to continue driving the vehicle to a limited extent even though the tire has partially or completely lost pressure. These tires are mounted on a special rim. (Ordinary tires can also be mounted on this rim.) If an SST tire loses pressure, the yellow TPMS lamp in the instrument cluster lights up and a message appears in the information display. If this happens, reduce speed to max. 80 km/h. The tire must be replaced as soon as possible.
Drive carefully. In certain cases it may be difficult to identify which tire is faulty. To check which tire needs repair, inspect all four tires.
WARNINGSST tires may only be mounted by persons with the relevant specialist knowledge.
SST tires may only be mounted together with TPMS.
After a low tire pressure fault message appears, do not drive faster than 80 km/h.
Do not drive more than 80 km until the tire is replaced.
Avoid aggressive driving, such as hard braking or sharp cornering.
Damaged or flat SST tires must be replaced.

Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS)*29 - Correcting low tire pressure
The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)30 warns the driver if the pressure in one or more tyres is too low and shows which tyre is affected.
A yellow indicator is an early warning of low tyre pressure. Stop immediately and check the tyre pressure.
A red indicator means the tyre pressure is significantly lower than recommended. Stop and restore the tyre pressure immediately.
If a low tyre pressure message appears in the display:
- Check the pressure of the affected tyre.
- Inflate the tyre(s) to the correct pressure.
- Drive the vehicle at a speed of at least 30 km/h for a few minutes and check whether the message goes out.

The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) of the Volvo S80 (2nd generation) increases safety by warning the driver of low tyre pressure. It is activated or deactivated via the MY CAR menu system with the vehicle stationary. An X in the display shows the status.
Volvo recommends using TPMS sensors also on winter wheels and advises against swapping sensors between wheels. If a spare wheel without a sensor is used, a warning message is displayed. Changes to the tyre size require the system to be reconfigured by an authorised workshop.
The TPMS helps detect tyre damage early but does not replace regular manual tyre pressure checks.
