The status menu of the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) in the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016) provides the driver with colour-coded information on the condition of the tyres. This section explains the various status indications and the behaviour of the system in the event of a fault. Recommendations on correct tyre pressure monitoring and on clearing warning messages are also given. Tips on optimal use promote everyday safety.

The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System)* warns the driver if the pressure in one or more tyres of the vehicle is too low.

System and tyre status

The current status of the system and tyres can be checked, see MY CAR.

  1. Select the MY CAR menu system to open the tyre pressure monitoring menus.
  2. Select Tyre pressure.

The status is colour-coded for each tyre as follows:

  • All green: The system is working normally, and the pressure of all tyres is slightly above the recommended value.
  • Yellow wheel: The associated tyre has a pressure that is too low.
  • Red wheel: The associated tyre has a pressure that is far too low.
  • All wheels grey: The system is currently unavailable. If necessary, drive the vehicle for a few minutes faster than 30 km/h to reactivate the system.
  • All wheels grey and the message Tyre pressure system service required: A fault has occurred in the system. Contact a Volvo Partner or workshop.

Clearing warnings

If a tyre pressure warning has been displayed and the TPMS warning light is illuminated:

  1. Check the tyre pressure of the reported tyre(s) with a tyre pressure gauge.
  2. Inflate the tyre(s) to the pressure according to the tyre pressure label on the driver's side B-pillar (between the front and rear doors).
  3. If necessary, drive the vehicle for a few minutes faster than 30 km/h so that the message is no longer displayed. The TPMS warning light then also goes out.
CAUTION
  • The TPMS uses a so-called compensated tire pressure, which takes tire and outside temperature into account. As a result, the tire pressure may deviate slightly from the recommended values listed on the tire pressure label on the driver's side B-pillar (between the front and rear door). The tire may therefore need to be inflated to slightly higher pressure so that a low tire pressure warning is no longer displayed.
  • To avoid errors, check the tire pressure when the tires are cold. Cold tires means that the tires have the same temperature as the ambient temperature (approx. 3 hours after the last drive). After driving a few kilometers, the tires warm up and the pressure increases.
WARNING
  • Incorrect tire pressure can cause a tire failure, which may cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
  • The system cannot give advance warning of sudden tire damage.

21 Standard in certain markets.

The TPMS status display in the Volvo S80 (2nd gen) shows the condition of each tire in color in the menu. Green means everything is OK, yellow indicates low pressure, and red signals severely low pressure. Gray means the system is temporarily unavailable or needs service.

Warnings can be cleared after adjusting the tire pressure by driving the vehicle faster than 30 km/h for a few minutes. The system then resets and the warning light goes out.
